Universal Carrier Mk II – Part 2:Assembly

This is a big kit, in terms of the amount of plastic you get. I had to buy extra storage boxes to accommodate all the subassemblies! I thought the fit was very good overall. I have few complaints but what I have are … no decals for the instrument dials and radio, ambiguous instructions in places and insufficient information about the painting of parts. Otherwise, very nice, from a manufacturer previously unknown to me.

There is scope for extra detailing here if you wanted to and had the reference pictures to hand. I don’t have that many good ones in sufficient detail and therefore won’t be doing extra. There is enough to do already and I reckon it will look nice enough built from out of the box. Clearly, I will have to paint and weather the inside and subassemblies, assemble them all, mask them all and then paint the exterior. It could take a while…

  1. Wow, there looks to be a lot of fiddly bits there!
I image at 1:16 though it’s quite a bit bigger than it seems.

  2. Yes at that scale not too fiddly, even the photo etch!

It’s big, but not excessively so, as the real vehicle was small. So, length wise about the size of a modern tank at 1/35. Still, I hope it will be imposing enough when finished.
