As detailed previously, I thought that the new headlight mounting went well. The only problem was that a couple of days later the light switch failed, such that I was left with no lights at night away from home! Upon inspection the switch contacts were totally worn away. This was discovered by the breakdown guy that I called out and he was able to rig up a temporary circuit to get the lights on – as shown in the bottom of the first picture (the red wiring – minus the fuse which was acting as a temporary switch). Fitting a new switch was simplicity itself. So, it shouldn’t be a too much of a deal if this happens in the future.

That was a good result. I remember what the AA man said when he fixed up the temporary “switch” – “Try doing that on a modern car!”.
