M3 Grant build – Part 3:Painting

Primer: Tamiya “Fine Surface Primer” spray can

Base coat: A mixture of 80% Tamiya acrylics (90% XF-57 “Buff”, 10% Tamiya XF-59 “Desert Yellow”) and 20% Tamiya X-22 Clear in Tamiya X-20A thinner (ratio 2/3 paint mixture to 1/3 thinner).

Details:

  • headlights (Games Workshop “Chainmail”)
  • rear lights (Games Workshop “Blood Red”)
  • machine guns (Vallejo Model Color “Black” 70950)
  • tyres (Vallejo Model Color “Black” 70950)
  • exhaust (LifeColor “Rust Light shadow 2” UA704, LifeColor “Rust Light shadow 1” UA703, LifeColor “Rust Base Color” UA702, LifeColor “Rust Dark Shadow” UA701) [1]
  • tracks (Vallejo Panzer Aces “Track Primer” 304, Vallejo Panzer Aces “Dark Rubber” 306, drybrushed with Games Workshop “Boltgun Metal”)

Finish:

  • Coated with two layers of Humbrol Clear.
  • Decals placed and covered with Humbrol Clear.
  • Application of Citadel “Purity Seal” satin varnish spray.
