The vehicle

“The Bedford MK was introduced to the British Army in the early 1970s as part of a new line of military transport vehicles. Built on a sturdy 4×4 chassis, the MK FV model was crafted to deliver excellent mobility over difficult terrain, making it perfect for tactical missions away from established bases…. The aircraft refueller version became especially significant for supporting fast jet and rotary-wing operations in field conditions. Designed to service both RAF Harrier jump jets and Army Air Corps helicopters, these vehicles allowed aviation units to function from scattered, temporary sites – a vital capability during the Cold War era when tactical adaptability was essential.” [1]

Assembly

Painting

The base colour was AK Interactive Real Colours “NATO Green” (RC886). I used a mask set for the cab by CT Scale Models (found on ebay). They worked very well and saved a lot of time.

Weathering

The base

The base was cut from 4mm MDF, painted with Mr.Surfacer 1000 to provide a slight texture and then various grey y paints. I scored lines into it using a bradawl. Finished with some pigments and oil paint.
