51st (Highland) Division, North West Europe, 1944-1945.
The vehicle
“The Universal Carrier … was one of a family of light armoured tracked vehicles built by Vickers-Armstrongs and other companies. The vehicle was used widely by British Commonwealth forces during the Second World War. Universal Carriers were usually used for transporting personnel and equipment, mostly support weapons, or as machine gun platforms.” [1]
“The Ordnance quick-firing 6-pounder 7 cwt, or just 6-pounder, was a British 57 mm gun, serving during the Second World War as a primary anti-tank gun of both the British and United States Army (as the 57 mm gun M1)” [2]
The kit
Airfix 1/76 kit [3].
This one is probably the worst of the bunch of 1/76 kits which I have recently done. In particular, the side skirts are terrible looking. But, with my recent 1/16 scale version, I feel I have done this vehicle justice so I was content to do this one as a bit of fun.

The base colour was AK Interactive Real Colours “S.C.C. No.15 Olive Drab” (RC875).
Weathering
Usual things here – minor amounts of chipping at this scale, rust paints, oil wash (“Raw Umber” and “Starship Filth”) and pigments (“Europe Earth”, “Airfield Dust”).
The base
I cut a base from 4mm thick MDF sheet. AK Interactive “Neutral Texture for Earth” (AK8023) was applied and, once dry, various paint tones. After sealing with a gloss varnish, an oil wash was added. This done, I flattened it all down with matt varnish and then dripped pigment fixer to the whole surface and dropped on pigment until the surface was covered. Basing glue was then painted along the sides of the track and 2mm grass flock dropped from a static applicator. All of these I got from WWScenics.
Because the commander figure was standing up in the vehicle I decided to give him something to look at. Hence, the sheep!
