The vehicle
“The Morris CDSW 6×4 was a six-wheeled artillery tractor brought into service in the early to mid-1930s by the British Army to tow its field guns.” [1]

The kit
Airfix 1/76 kit [3]. There is no pretending that this – and others which I shall shortly describe – are showing their age, being overly simple in places. They are, after all, marketed as “Vintage Classics”. But, I shall look past that, they look nice enough from a distance! I am aware of better kits at this scale (well, 1/72) from the likes of IBG and ICM, but my nationality and age draw me to these for nostalgic reasons.
Due to it being difficult to spray paint this summer I have been assembling an army of 1/76 scale models instead, which will be shown in a succession of posts.
Assembly
Painting
Of course, the cab interior had to be painted and masked before assembling the canvas roof. The paints shown in the images were used, the main colour being AK Interactive Real Colours “Light Stone No.61” (RC868).
Weathering
Usual things here – minor amounts of chipping at this scale, rust paints, oil wash (“Raw Umber” and “Starship Filth”) and pigments (“North Africa Dust”).
The base
I cut a base from 4mm thick MDF sheet. AK Interactive “Neutral Texture for Earth” (AK8023) was applied and, once dry, various paint tones. After sealing with a gloss varnish, an oil wash was added. This done, I flattened it all down with matt varnish and then dripped pigment fixer to the whole surface and dropped on pigment until the surface was covered. Going back and forth with various drybrushing finished it off. The palm tree was got ready made but I painted it. It adds a bit of interest.
