The vehicle
I’ve always thought that this tank looks especially fearsome – something to do with the distinctive prow [1]. All the parts seem to be there for a successful vehicle – a big gun, sloping armour and low profile. As it happens, arriving just too late for World War Two, it was plagued by mechanical and manufacturing problems [2]. A later variant (IS-3M) was produced which seems to have been more successful.
