Land Rover “Pink Panther” build – Part 3:Painting

Progress in modelling has been slow this summer due to much of my time being taken up with the Defender. Nevertheless, I am managing to do some …

Primer: Tamiya “Fine Surface Primer” (light grey) spray can

Base coat: I used the mixture recommended in the instructions. Thus, a mixture of 90% Tamiya acrylics (Tamiya XF-2 “Flat White”, Tamiya XF-7 “Flat Red” and Tamiya XF-57 “Buff” in a 10:1:2 ratio) and 10% Tamiya X-22 Clear in Tamiya lacquer thinner (2:1 paint mixture to thinner).

Details:

  • Headlights, sidelights, lamp: Citadel “Mithril Silver”
  • Rear lights and reflectors: Vallejo Model Color “Red” 70947
  • Indicator lights: Vallejo Model Color “Bright Orange” 70851
  • Tyres: Vallejo Model Color “Black” 70950
  • Dashboard details: Vallejo Model Color “Black” 70950
  • Tools (handles): Vallejo Panzer Aces “New Wood” 311
  • Tools (metal): Vallejo Model Color “Black Grey” 70862
  • Compass: Vallejo Model Color “White” 70951, Vallejo Model Color “Black” 70950
  • Fire extinguishers: Xtracrylix “British Deep Bronze Green” XA1814
  • Seats: the cushions were initially painted with Vallejo Panzer Aces “Canvas” 314 and then with a light spraying of the Tamiya pink paint mix, so that the original colour was still somewhat visible (see a more pronounced example here).
  • Stowage (bags): Vallejo Panzer Aces “Canvas” 314, Vallejo Model Color “Khaki” 70988, Vallejo Model Color “Khaki Grey” 70880, Vallejo Model Color “Olive Grey” 70888, Vallejo Model Color “Russian Uniform WWII” 70924, Vallejo Model Color “English Uniform” 70921, Vallejo Panzer Aces “Leather Belt” 312,  Vallejo Model Color “Gunmetal Grey” 70863

It looks quite unfinished yet as I have many more stowage items to add.
