Char 2C build – Part 10:Weathering (fading with oils)

I thought I would try something new at this point. Often, I have seen model builds where dots of various oil paints are applied over the model and then blended into the surface to create the effect of faded or discoloured paint. I happened to have some Mig Productions 502 Abteilung oils and chose the following for my “palette”:

Light Rust Brown (ABT060)
Luftwaffe Yellow (ABT010)
Faded Green (ABT040)
German Grey Highlight (ABT170)
Olive Green (ABT050)
Faded Navy Blue (ABT030)

I had no artistic basis for this selection – simply that they were available and were sufficiently different to each other. Anyway, I proceeded to dot the turrets and majority of the hull with the various colours, blended them with a round brush moistened with white spirit and then drew the paint residue vertically downwards with a straight brush. I am quite happy with the result – it certainly subtly alters the majority green colour of the vehicle – and might consider trying it again in the future.
