LRDG Chevrolet truck build – III:Painting

Primer: Humbrol spray can

Base coat:

  • A mixture of 80% Tamiya XF-59 “Desert Yellow” and 20% Tamiya X-22 Clear in Tamiya X-20A thinner (ratio 2/3 paint mixture to 1/3 thinner).
  • I thought that this was too dark, so followed it with a mixture of 80% Tamiya acrylics (ratio 1 part XF-59 “Desert Yellow”, 4 parts XF-57 “Buff”) and 20% Tamiya X-22 Clear in Tamiya X-20A thinner (ratio 2/3 paint mixture to 1/3 thinner)

Details:

  • tools (Vallejo Panzer Aces “Old Wood” 310, Vallejo Model Color “Black” 70950, Games Workshop “Chainmail”, Games Workshop “Boltgun Metal”)
  • windscreen covers (Vallejo Panzer Aces “Canvas” 314, Vallejo Model Color “Leather Brown” 70871)
  • roll up cab doors (Vallejo Model Color “Khaki” 70988, Vallejo Model Color “English Uniform” 70921)
  • headlight (Games Workshop “Mithril Silver”)
  • rear lights (Games Workshop “Blood Red”)
  • sun compass (Vallejo Model Color “Black” 70950, Games Workshop “Chainmail”)
  • Lee-Enfield rifles (Vallejo Panzer Aces “New Wood” 311, Vallejo Model Color “Black” 70950)
  • wheels (Vallejo Panzer Aces “Dark Rubber” 310)
  • seat (Vallejo Model Color “Saddle Brown” 70940)

I will say that I don’t think that the resin tyres are as well cast as they should be, especially around the inner part of the tyre – perhaps I got a bad batch? It made it hard to get a clean demarcation of colours.
