Arctic Explorers

I found these metal figures on Ebay – I think that they’re 28mm scale – and wondered if I could do something with them. I have an interest in Arctic and Antarctic, especially from the so-called “Heroic Age“.

I printed out a suitable background image and attached it to the wooden base. I wanted a back drop of a pressure ridge. This was done using chunks of foam, which were filled in somewhat with Plaster of Paris. In the foreground I laid down some clay, into which the figure bases were pushed in. After this, I painted the scene and figures – in particular I used AK Interactive “Snow Blue” (AK11174) on the blocks of ice, following pictures of the real things. Once the figures were installed I put down a cover of fresh snow, using AK Interactive “Snow Terrain” (AK8011).

Well, it is colourful on my shelf and somewhat different from my usual output!
