Challenger 2 build – Part 4:Weathering

  • The exhausts were painted with the LifeColor rust paint set.
  • An amount of paint chipping – meant to represent the loss of the desert colour to the underlying green and as seen in some photos of the real vehicle – was simulated using LifeColor “Soviet Army Dark Olive” (UA237).
  • The entire model was washed with a dilute mixture of Winsor & Newton “Raw Umber” in enamel thinners – the excess being cleaned up with a dry brush or cotton bud.
  • Some extra shading – especially in the panel lines – was added using AMMO Oilbrusher “Dark Mud”.
  • The tarp was further painted with AMMO Oilbrusher “Olive Green”.
  • The headlights were polished with AK Interactive True Metal “Steel” (AK457).
  • The entire model was sprayed with a 1:2 mixture of Mr.Color “Flat Clear” (182) and Mr.Color Leveling Thinner.
  • The tracks, wheels and hull was spray with a 5% solution of Mr.Color “Tan” (44) and Mr.Color Leveling Thinner.
  • The exhaust ends were brushed with Tamiya “Soot” powder.
  • The crowbar, machine guns, gun barrel end and tow cables were brushed with AK Interactive “Dark Steel” (AK086).
  • The tracks, wheels and hull were brushed with AMMO “Sand” pigment.
