KV-1 (Model 1939) build – Part 10:Weathering (dust)

  • A 1:1 mixture of Tamiya Acrylic XF-57 “Buff” and Tamiya Acrylic XF-52 “Flat Earth” in Tamiya X-20A thinner (10% paint mixture in thinner) was sprayed on the lower half of the hull, the suspension, wheels and selective parts of the upper hull.
  • The tracks, wheels, upper turret, upper hull horizontal surfaces\vertical sides and running gear of the hull were dusted with small amounts of a mix of “medium” colour pigments. White spirit was then gently sprayed on to act as fixer.
  • I didn’t go overboard on the application of dirt, wanting to make the vehicle look fairly new and not too damaged or used – thus, only a light dusting, no great amounts of mud or chipping.
