Challenger 1 Mk 3 build – Part 17:Weathering (rust and soot)

  • The exhausts were painted first with Vallejo Model Color “Black” 70950 and then dry brushed in selected areas with Lifecolor “Rust dark shadow” UA 701, Lifecolor “Rust base color” UA 702 and Lifecolor “Rust light shadow 1″ UA 703.
  • AK interactive “Light Rust Wash” (AK046) was added around the bases of the exhausts and the excess removed some time later with white spirit.
  • Application of the “Soot” Tamiya weathering powder to the end of the exhaust and adjoining hull. Some of my reference pictures show this part of the tank to get very dirty! I have gone for a middle ground.
