German Field Kitchen (“Gulaschkanone”)

Tamiya 1/35 kit.

I wanted to create a scene showing the non-mechanized aspect of the German army – so, carts, bicycles and foot soldiers. The broken sign reads Харьков (Kharkov) . I guess that the drivers are just contemplating hitching up the horses – which are “off camera”!

I think that this is quite an old kit. It comes with two horses which I was keen to use initially, but after constructing them and the harnesses I had to reject them. The scene includes the Tamiya German bicycle kit and soldiers from the Tamiya BMW R75 kit, Italeri BMW R75 kit and MiniArt “German soldiers at rest“.

The base features a Verlinden cobblestone road and Dioart Soviet signage.
